Discover the Benefits of Dental Crowns

Teeth

Dental crowns can be used to restore a tooth, attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth, and even cover a dental implant. The Douglasville dentists here at West Georgia Family Dentistry can help you learn more about dental crowns and determine if this dental device can help you.

What Are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a false tooth placed over what remains of your original tooth. We offer dental crowns in porcelain, resin, ceramic, stainless steel, and metal alloys. We will discuss your options and let you decide which material you want to use based on health needs and cosmetic preferences.

Why Get Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are recommended when you’ve had a tooth damaged too severely for cosmetic bonding, or if you’ve had a root canal. You may also benefit from a dental crown to preserve decaying teeth, hold a dental bridge in place, or cover a dental implant. Dental crowns can provide structural support, cosmetically preserve your smile, and allow you to chew food properly.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Our team can complete a dental crown procedure in two to three visits. The first visit involves taking x-rays, taking a mold of the treatment area prior to touching the tooth, then giving you a numbing agent before grinding down the tooth to support a crown. We’ll work to make sure you’re comfortable and experience zero pain. A secondary mold will be formed, and then we’ll fit you with a temporary crown to hold you over until the real one arrives at our office.

On the second trip, we’ll remove the temporary crown and set the permanent one in place, ensuring it fits comfortably, is going to stay in place, and your bite feels normal. The final result should feel the same prior to treatment.
